Stephanie Hartpence
Multidisciplinary Artist & Designer
Hello! I live in Kansas City with my husband, our 2 daughters and our orange tabby cat. When I'm not designing emails or being supermom, I'm at a pottery studio learning how to throw on the wheel.
My works on paper are primarily abstract collage. My process involves painting and drawing with a variety of media - ink, acrylics, pastels and colored pencil - and then creating layered motifs. I hand cut my paintings and drawings, and then reassemble the pieces into amorphous layouts. I think of my paper cutting as 'drawing with a knife'.
I like to incorporate pages of books from the thrift store. Retro and campy books from decades past influence the color palette in my work. I love using discordant color combinations of bold hues, neons and earth tones.
I have shown work in Kansas City, San Francisco and Los Angeles. I pursued BFA studies in Sculpture at the San Francisco Art Institute from 2002 - 2006. In 2011, I attended Artist INC Live in Kansas City, a professional development program for artists. I then went back to school and received my AAS in Graphic Design from Johnson County Community College in 2017.
